Cops are hunting for four suspects after six skelms robbed a Telkom store, fleeing with bags of cellphones and cash.
Police say two of the men’s luck ran out thanks to video footage and Licence Plate Recognition technology and they were nabbed.
The six armed robbers stormed into the Telkom store at the Parow Centre on Wednesday at 12.40pm.
The thieves ordered the workers to lie on the floor while threatening them with a firearm.
A cashier was forced to open a cage-like container from which expensive and brand-new cellphones like the Huawei P20 Pro and Samsung J6 as well as petty cash were stolen.
The suspects fled in a white Toyota Quantum van.
After viewing the video footage, members of the police’s Flying Squad tracked the skelms to Lingelethu in Khayelitsha.
The driver and one suspect were arrested and some of the cellphones recovered as well as the getaway vehicle.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, says cops are hunting for the four other suspects who are still at large: “According to information, six unidentified males entered the cellphone shop and ordered the workers at gunpoint to lie on the floor.
“One of the cashiers was ordered to open the container cage where the suspects then took the cellphones and petty cash.
“An undisclosed amount of Huawei P20 Pro and Samsung J6 cellphones were stolen. No injuries were reported. The suspects fled the scene in a white Quantum kombi.”
He says the getaway car’s registration number was picked up from the video footage and the SAPS’ Licence Plate Recognition system was used to track it.
“Members attached to Western Cape Flying Squad arrested the driver and one suspect in the Lingelethu area.
“Some of the cellphones were recovered and the vehicle used was also confiscated. Four suspects still at large.”
