SHOCK: Security guard shot dead in Roeland Street SHOCK: Security guard shot dead in Roeland Street
Brazen robbers have killed a security guard while robbing a popular photography store in the Cape Town CBD.
On Saturday just before 12pm, four armed men went into Orms in Roeland Street and demanded staff lie flat on the ground.
During an altercation with one of the robbers, the 55-year-old guard was shot and died on the scene.
The suspects robbed the store of equipment and also took the deceased’s firearm before fleeing in an unidentified vehicle.
A witness who was on the scene says it was mayhem: “I work close by and everything is always nice and quiet before the lunch time rush.
“We just heard a gunshot and thought no, it cannot be. But when we heard tyres screeching we knew something was wrong.
“The staff were shaking like leaves. They are so traumatised and that poor man who got shot was only doing his job.”
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, confirmed cases of robbery and murder are under investigation.
“According to reports, four males entered the store positively armed. They then forced the personnel to lie down and robbed the shop of an undisclosed amount of equipment,” Van Wyk says.
“A 55-year-old security officer was shot and fatally wounded.
“The suspects fled the scene with the firearm of the security officer.”
