Police are on the hunt for three skelms who robbed and killed an off-duty police officer in Khayelitsha on Sunday night.
According to a source, Sergeant Vuyani Fani, 40, a detective stationed at Mitchells Plain Police Station, was gunned down outside his cousin’s home in Aliam Drive shortly after 11pm.
“He was reportedly coming to see his cousin. The cousin says when the member left, she heard voices outside and people running around the hokkie,” says the source.
“Then two shots were fired. The deceased ran back to the hokkie and a third shot went off.
“She only saw movement of a person outside when she lifted the curtain. When all was quiet they found him lying outside.”
Provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Khombinkosi Jula, said he is shocked by the killing in Site B and says the officer’s cellphone was stolen.
“According to information, the 40-year-old police sergeant who was stationed at Mitchells Plain SAPS detectives, was in Khayelitsha when he was shot by three unidentified gunmen who robbed him off his cellphone.
