A fight over a stolen cellphone ended up in one skollie gunning down his own tjommie.
Belmont Park residents were woken up by gunshots on Sunday morning and went outside to find the dead man on 5th Avenue.
A 40-year-old community member told the Daily Voice: “The killer is a well known person in our neighbourhood.
“I saw the shooting and after he did that, he ran away.
“Yesterday morning they robbed someone of their cellphone and then minutes later, they were heard having an argument about who was going to keep the stolen property.
“They wanted to stab each other, they had knives out, but the murder suspect pulled out a gun and shot his friend at close range.”
The witness says the deceased was shot twice in the stomach.
“The victim attempted to run into someone’s yard after he was shot, but collapsed dead in front of the driveway.
“I was very shocked at what I witnessed because they were close friends.
“It is unbelievable that someone was shot and killed over a stolen phone.
“We are shocked about what happened here.”
When the Daily Voice team arrived at the 5th Avenue scene, Kraaifontein police and forensic experts were combing the scene.
Shaken residents stood and watched as the victim’s body was loaded into a morgue van.
SAPS’ Andre Traut says the motive for the murder is unknown at this stage of the investigation.
“The circumstances surrounding the death of an unknown man in his late twenties are being investigated after he was shot and killed this morning at around 7.30am in 5th Avenue in Belmont Park, Kraaifontein,” he says.
“The suspect fled and is yet to be arrested. The motive for the murder is yet to be determined.”
