The 57-year-old man from Rylands says he made a case of theft, but the matter was thrown out of court after a cop told him he “took the stuff himself”.
Shaik Khalil Ally claims the men were sent by the owner of a second-hand car dealership in Goodwood and allegedly took his daughter’s 2014 Kia Picanto and “R500 000 worth of goods” from his apartment on 25 April.
According to Ally, the men pulled up at his flat with a van, loaded in computers, appliances and furniture, leaving him with a bare bed base.
“They held a gun to my head and would not listen when I explained I would make a plan as soon as possible to start paying back the money,” says Ally.
He says he “stood helplessly” at the door while the men carried out his things.
He went to lay a charge at Athlone police station the next day.
“But they would not take my case. They laughed at me. I eventually got someone to help me in June and a warrant officer was forced to look into it. He accused me of selling my stuff myself, but I gave them the names of the people who took my stuff. I sent them there and they did nothing about it.”
Ally shows the loan agreement he signed with a dealership called Auto One in January.
The Daily Voice called the number on the document.
However, a woman who answered the phone claimed she didn’t know anything about the matter.
“I don’t know what you are talking about,” she said.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirms the case was withdrawn at the Athlone Magistrates’ Court due to “insufficient
evidence”.
