The Cape Town High Court sentenced a man who was convicted of raping and murdering a four-year-old girl to 55 years in jail this week.
Andile Jamda was arrested on 23 July 2018 following the gruesome murder of the child, who was found dumped in 40 Section Makhaza, Khayelitsha.
She was allegedly lured by the accused to his shack where he raped and killed her.
The victim was found with multiple stab wounds all over her body and her throat had been slit.
Her lifeless body was dumped at a dumping site.
The initial investigation led to the arrest of Jamda, who was known to the victim as they lived in the same area.
He was never granted bail and remained in custody until this week Tuesday, when he was sentenced to 55 years direct imprisonment.
Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape Lieutenant-General Yolisa Matakata praised the investigation and prosecution teams for securing the heavy sentence for rape and murder.
She said: “Crimes against women and children are the priority of SAPS, and every endeavour will be
made to apprehend perpetrators, as indicated in this investigation by the investigating officer Detective Constable Luthando Mqikwa of Harare SAPS after the conviction and sentencing of 35-year-old Andile Jamda by Cape Town High Court.”
Matakata said the thorough investigation work had paid off and that the conviction must send a strong message to would-be criminals that
SAPS is relentless in its efforts to fight crimes against women and children and will hunt down the perpetrators of these crimes so that they will face the full might of the law.
