The Passenger Rail Agency (Prasa) says it will work with Transnet, the City of Cape Town and police to improve Metrorail security and commuters’ safety.
Prasa appeared before Parliament’s portfolio committee yesterday, where Acting Group CEO Cromet Molepo said: “There is a commitment from the City to provide 100 officers, 60 commuter safety security and 14 infrastructure. We will also be upscaling to 1550 Prasa security.”
He told MPs that the agency is currently finalising an agreement with Transnet to assist with speed regulations of trains at various stations.
Molepo added that Cape Town’s busiest route, the Central Line which has been closed for five weeks, will be operating by next week.
