Police have offered a R100 000 reward for
information about the murder of Sergeant
Donovan Prins in June.
Prins, 34, was a member of the Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) at Steenberg SAPS. He was gunned down while pursuing
suspects in Fawley Court, Lavender Hill.
Prins, who was
driving the SAPS vehicle, was shot at close range after being ambushed by
gangsters.
His partner rushed him to Melomed Hospital, in Tokai, where he died.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut, said the Anti-Gang Unit needed the public’s assistance to solve this case.
“Any person with
information that can lead us to the suspects is kindly requested to
contact the investigating officer, Detective
Sergeant Patrick Learner, on 021 843 1900 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111 with their anonymous tip-off.
“A reward of R100 000 is offered for information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the suspects,” Traut said.
Meanwhile, a memorial service was held in Kleinvlei on Wednesday for slain Warrant Officer Hilton Joseph, who was murdered earlier this month while pursuing a suspect linked to a double murder in Mfuleni.
Police Minister, General Bheki Cele, and Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sindile Mfazi, were among the
dignitaries in attendance.
There have been a spate of cop killings recently; including officers Jannie Nieuwenhuys and Simthembile Myangiwe of Law Enforcement who were shot and killed in Philippi, as well as an off-duty Delft SAPS member, Constable Leyden Finger, who was stabbed to death after suspects tried to rob him.
