Matric pupils in Kraaifontein are buzzing after they found out they will be receiving cheap data to help them keep up with their school work during
shutdown.
Pupils from Gabriel Court in Scottsdene have been offered a deal by Ice Media in which they pay just R10 for a gig of data.
Charnay Arendse, 17, who attends Scottsdene High School, says she could not be happier.
“I was jumping for joy when I heard this on Friday. For only R10 I can get a lot of data, which is usually expensive, and which was difficult to get especially if you come from a single
parent household,” she says.
Morné Steyn, 22, a matric pupil at Northpine High School, says getting internet has been a hassle, and this campaign is a big relief.
“It’s always a mission to get access to internet and sometimes one has to walk so far, now you can just do your work from home without having to walk
anywhere,” he says.
Parent Isak Steyn says: “With the Coronavirus, this could not have come at a better time as everyone is supposed to stay indoors and one can just use R10 to buy data.
“This is a relief as we know our children are safe.”
Ice Group Chief Executive Officer Aubrey Botha says more neighbourhoods will benefit from the deals.
“With the network we deployed, people can enjoy affordable internet at R10 a gig valid for 30 days, R50 for uncapped 2mbps, R100 for 4mbps uncapped, families can get a family voucher for R20 uncapped at 4mbps per device,” he says.
“The great thing about our network, like mobile
networks, wherever you move in our reception area, you will enjoy the same speed as the voucher you bought.
“Our plans are to blanket Scottsdene, Wallacedene and Bloekombos over the next few months.”
