The Animal Welfare Society of South Africa has begun a crowdfunding initiative to help feed destitute dogs during the period of lockdown.
This week a dog in Philippi was lucky to become the first recipient.
The crowdfunding campaign is currently being run by Backabuddy.
Allan Perrins of the Animal Welfare of Society in Philippi says they rescued a female dog this week which was impacted with ticks, starving and needed a blood transfusion.
The dog was the first recipient of dog food valued at R495, which will keep her fed.
INITIATIVE: Lucky dog
Allan says the campaign will help feed dogs and animals who are left homeless during the lockdown because their owners are unable to feed them.
“Countless pets are being left to go hungry and forced to lead a feral life due to their owners’ current inability to buy sufficient food for themselves as well as their pets,” Perrins says.
“It is up to me as the Head of Communications and Resource Development for the Animal Welfare Society of SA to be her and every other needy animal’s voice and I just hope that I have said and done enough to express her and our gratitude to every single person who has enabled us to save her life.
