Friends Porchia Jonkers, 26, and Princess Gopie, 35, say the criminal charges against them are unfair, and deny luring Ivodene “Dienkie” van Niekerk to the home of Elizabeth “Mimmie” Williams to be assaulted.
Speaking outside Goodwood Magistrates’ Court on Monday after being released on R1000 bail last week, the duo rekked their bekke on what allegedly led to the shocking act of torture on 26 July.
While they admit being friends with Mimmie’s boyfriend, Jubie, they say they never spoke to Mimmie until she attacked both Dienkie and Porchia for allegedly sleeping with him.
Both women have been charged as accomplices for the assault case while the Tygerberg Hospital nurse has been charged with assault, kidnapping, intimidation and crimen injuria after she released a video of herself torturing Dienkie and forcing her to eat dog drolle.
Mimmie also allegedly moered Dienkie with a dog chain, and threatened to let her two dogs bite her private parts.
Princess says they fetched Dienkie and another woman known only as Beverley to do her hair and nails for her brother’s wedding.
While waiting outside a house in Eureka Estate, Mimmie approached Dienkie and took her away.
“Ek het net gehoor hulle skree vir my en sê daar het Mimmie vir Dienkie gevat. [I heard them call me and say Mimmie took Dinkie.]
“We called Jubie, but his phone was on voicemail. And then I saw Mimmie with the bag of aah [poo],” says Princess.
Porchia says Mimmie accused her of sleeping with Jubie and choked her with a dog chain.
“Mimmie het my gechoke en Princess het gekeer,” she says. [Mimmie choked me and Princess stopped her.]
“Whenever he came to sleep over by us, we told him ‘go to your wife’. Dienkie told us that he and Mimmie had been together for two years already.”
Porchia says Jubie is a known joller with a “long list” of girlfriends: “Hy het een keer by my aangeklop and I told him you have a list and I don’t want to be a part of your list.”
They say shortly after arriving at court, they found Jubie had also just appeared for violating his parole conditions and was sent to Pollsmoor Prison.
They say he is a well-known 28s skollie met “’n klomp tjappies” [lots of tattoos].
Princess says they got a “groot skrik” when they saw Mimmie with the bag of poo and were aware that the incident with Dienkie was being filmed, but were scared of her dogs - a pit bull and a boerboel.
She denies being paid R200 for luring Dienkie to Eureka Estate and says Mimmie offered her the money for messing with the dog poo in her yard.
“But I never took the money. We were with her in the cells and we could see she is sorry, and that she is worried about her child,” Princess further explains.
Magistrate Bukiwe Sambudla was expected to make a ruling on Mimmie’s bail application on Monday, but said the court was not ready and postponed the matter to Wednesday while Mimmie was sent back to prison.
“We believe they will find us innocent because God knows the truth,” Porchia explains.
