Around 10 houses, including one being used as a church in Waterblom Street in Wesbank, was flooded with poo after a pipe burst underground.
But the pastor says his church service continued despite the stench.
Pastor Patrick Louw tells the Daily Voice: “The blockage started last Thursday and at the time, around 10 households were affected.
“The worst drain floods were on Friday where the complete yard and toilet and bedroom in one household were flooded with poo and pee and in that same house was a mother with her one-year-old baby who were heavily affected by the stench.
“Our drainpipes couldn’t take the pressure of the drain content, toe spat die popo innie kerk.
“But the congregants didn’t let the poo and pee smell get them down and kept on praising the amazing God.”
Pastor Louw said mense could hear and feel the gurgling of the sewage.
“The church was shorter than normal times as we already fear the Coronavirus and now the poo and pee is also under us.
“The City officials came out Saturday morning but said they could not find the problem and gave people white powder to sprinkle over the poo and pee to contain the smell.
“It stopped a bit on Monday but started pouring again from Tuesday up until now.”
Alderwoman Xanthea Limberg said the City is attending to the matter.
“A service request was received today and the blockage has been assigned to a contractor to clear it,” she adds.
Meanwhile, Pastor Louw says his church floor has been ruined: “If there is anyone who can help us restore our floor with carpet or tiles we would be blessed.”
