President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced a number of changes to Cabinet on Thursday at the Union Buildings.
Ramaphosa said the new minister of Environmental Affairs will be Nomvula Mokonyane and Siyabonga Cwele will be the new Minister of Home Affairs.
He also announced that the Department of Communications and the Department of Telecommunications will be merged.
Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams will be the minister of the Department of Communications.
This is Ramaphosa's first Cabinet reshuffle since taking office in February. The only change he has previously made to his Cabinet was the appointment of Tito Mboweni as finance minister after the resignation of Nhlanhla Nene.
Two vacancies arose with the death of Environmental Affairs Minister Edna Molewa in September and the resignation of disgraced former finance minister Malusi Gigaba.
