A heroic Hanover Park dad ran through flames to save his two young girls from a fire which engulfed the family home on Friday morning.
Glenville Sacks, 38, says he got a skrik when he saw the flames coming from a room in his council flat in Tiberias Court and ran to the rescue of his daughters, Zia and Zara
“We were asleep on Friday morning when the fire started in my brother-in-law’s room just after 5am,” he explains.
“My wife Aadielah, 36, told me she could smell something burning and that is when we saw the fire. The flames were all over.
‘I got a big skrik. I immediately thought of my daughters who were still sleeping, I picked them up and we ran out through the front.

“Nobody was hurt and I was just happy that my wife and children were OK.”
As the family shouted for help, neighbours gathered with buckets of water to help fight the blaze.
City Fire and Rescue Services Spokesperson Jermaine Carelse says they received the call for help at 5.27am
“A ground-floor flat with the contents consisting of beds, bedding and furniture was damaged in the fire,” he says.
“Three adult males, one adult female and two female minors were displaced by the fire.
“The fire was extinguished by 6.01am and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is unknown.”

Glenville says Ward Councillor Antonio van der Rheede was called to the scene and luckily there was a vacant flat in the court the family could move into.
“It was quick and at least we didn’t have to sleep outside. Antonio came and helped and the neighbours helped us with clothes and food.
“But now we have to build from scratch as we have no furniture.
“The neighbours really stood by us and helped us.”
