A 34-year-old man who had recently been released from Pollsmoor Prison was shot in his bed as he lay sleeping next to his girlfriend in the early hours of Monday morning.
According to residents in Bishop Lavis, the shooting happened at a house on the corner of Olyfberg and Kleinberg Road.
Police say the victim, only identified as Russel, was awoken from his slumber by a woman sleeping next to him, who indicated that someone was in their room, looking for him.
The gunmen shot him in the head and ran off.
The woman was not injured.
Shocked residents and the woman stood outside as the victim was loaded into an ambulance and rushed to the closest hospital.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed the incident and says no arrests have been made yet.
“This office confirms that incident is gang-related. A 34-year-old man was wounded on Monday morning at about 7.10am during a shooting incident in Bishop Lavis,” he says.
“The victim was in bed with a female when one male person entered the sleeping area and the female indicated to the victim that someone needed his attention.
“As the victim tried to focus on the unidentified male person, one shot was fired. The victim sustained one bullet wound to the head and was transported to a nearby hospital.
“An attempted murder case were registered for investigation. No arrests as yet.”
