SEIZED: 743 abalone

Seven men were arrested in the Delft South area on Friday for possession of abalone and bribery.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut said at around 2am, Delft police pulled over a suspicious vehicle with four men inside.

Six empty bags with a distinctive fishy odour were found, Traut said.

The men were accompanied to the address to which they were en-route to where police discovered 743 abalone in a fridge worth an estimated R200 000

The homeowner then allegedly tried to bribe cops with R15 000.

All seven, aged between 27 and 39, are expected to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court today.
