Police went hunting in Kreefgat, Netreg on Saturday afternoon after receiving a tip-off regarding illegal abalone.
When police arrived at the address they found a room packed to the brim with abalone.
Cops were able to confiscate the perli, that filled two police vans, but they were then attacked.
Residents say alleged gangsters attacked the police and two people were killed.
One woman spent a few hours in hospital but died around midnight and a man was killed while fetching his wife at Netreg Station.
Both were caught in the crossfire between police and the alleged gangsters.
Saps commended the Bishop Lavis precinct for their bravery and great work.
