The Parkwood community said a neighbourhood party over the weekend turned bad when a 19-year-old man was stabbed multiple times and died less than a kilometre from the venue.
According to residents, Hakeem Joseph was found dead on the corner of Willow and Wattle Roads at about 11.30pm on Saturday night after getting into an argument with the wrong people.
A 20-year-old male resident says: “They were all drinking here by a court in Willow Road and Hakeem was not a gangster but he liked to drink with the ouens.
“The people here like to walk around with knives so he must have gotten in a stryery with one of the people and then the fight started.”
The resident, who was also at the party, says he heard arguments but only found out about the stabbing closer to midnight.
“When they started fighting, there was brasse running all over the place, they were fighting down the road, here in the court and soema around the corner.
“Only later on we heard that Hakeem was lying there by the shop on the corner and when the mense got there, he was already dead.”
When the Daily Voice visited the scene of the stabbing yesterday, residents said Hakeem died in front of the shop while the venue of the party was just a few metres away.
Hakeem’s family did not want to comment on his murder.
Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg says an arrest has been made.
“Grassy Park police were called to the crime scene in Willow Road Parkwood where they found the victim unresponsive,” he says.
“He was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.
“A case of murder was opened for investigation.
A 21-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the murder and will appear in court once he has been charged.”
