A Parkwood crèche received a boost from a good Samaritan after they were broken into.
On Friday, the Busy Bees Educare received a Library on Wheels worth over R6000 from the Siyazana Youth Development Fund.
About 200 children will now enjoy the gift consisting of books, puzzles and educational toys.
The principal and the owner of the educare Angela Adams says the donation came at the right time as they were recently robbed of their belongings when skollies broke into the centre on 23 March.
“We are grateful they chose us, we really needed a helping hand as we have just been robbed. Just like us, they believe children must start reading from an early age. We are so happy,” says Adams.
She says the skelms stole the children’s toiletries and toys.
She caters for children aged six months to six years old.
Ian Miller, the chief volunteer at Siyazana, says the kit will not only replace the stolen items but it will also uplift the educare centre with a more modern library that can be transferred from classroom to classroom.
Miller says: “When we discovered that Parkwood Busy Bees Educare Centre was burgled we immediately knew that we had to assist them.
“We, with our partner Hands of Honour, decided to donate an African Library on Wheels.
“The excitement of the staff and children was unexplainable when they saw the kit, it felt like Christmas in April and it was immediately obvious that the kit would have a long lasting benefit to the community of Parkwood as a whole.”
Siyazana YDF is a non-profit organisation offering support to early childhood development, youth development programs and other humanitarian programmes.
