OVERCOME Heights was rocked by another murder yesterday morning as gun violence flared up in the informal settlement again.

This brings the number of fatalities in the area to four confirmed deaths since the beginning of last week, with authorities pointing to a conflict between taxi organisations and gangs as the driving force.

According Muizenberg Community Policing Forum spokesperson Wayne Turner, detectives are investigating the latest shooting.

While no arrests have been made for the murder, police spokesman FC van Wyk reports that while cops were on the murder scene, a man in possession of an illegal firearm was vasgevat.

He reports: “Early on Tuesday at about 1am members of Muizenberg SAPS were attending a murder scene when they noticed some suspicious movement a few hundred meters away from the scene.

“They carefully approached the area where they saw a person hiding. The suspect was apprehended in Mountain Road, Overcome Heights where he was found in possession of a 9mm pistol without a serial number and four 9mm rounds.”

“He was arrested for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition which were handed in as exhibits. Residue testing was also done on the suspect by a member attached to Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC). The firearm will be sent to ballistics for analysis.

“The suspect will appear in the Muizenberg Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 2 April 2025 on the mentioned charge.

"Members of the community are encouraged to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111 with information on illegal firearms and ammunition.”
