A Bellville South oupa has been shot and killed by unknown gunmen while drinking at home with a friend who was wounded.

Christian “Jan” Adams, 55, died on the scene in his own yard on Friday around 11.50pm.

His 57-year-old wife Margaret says they rented out a section of their home to a Somali shop owner and Jan and his friend were outside drinking.

“While I was watching, TV I got irritated by him and his friend telling people the shop was closed and wanted to tell them to let people buy,” she says.

“As I tried to step down from the bed, I heard gunshots, I shouted his name and for my son to go and look for his father.

“And when I went outside, I saw his friend standing by the door and he was just full of blood.”

She adds that the friend was injured and collapsed because of shock.

“He was shot in his legs, arm and stomach.

“At that moment that Jan’s friend fainted, my son came to tell me that my husband was lying in front of the shop.

“When I went there his whole face was covered with blood.

“I said Jan! Jan! He looked at me and coughed twice and that was the time he died.

“We don’t know who and why he was shot because he was loved by many,” says Margaret.

“Our four children gave us 10 grandchildren and he spoiled them with sweets.”

She says the injured friend was unable to say who had shot them or why.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi says that no one has been arrested.

“Cases of murder and attempted murder were opened for investigation.

“Anyone with any information about this shooting incident can contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” he says.
