A Muizenberg oupa, 76, has been sentenced to 21 years in the mang by the Western Cape High Court after pleading guilty to murdering his wife and then staging a house robbery.
Shocking details have emerged detailing what led up to the horrific death of Franziska Carter at the hands of her husband William, who has admitted to beating her with a tyre iron before stabbing her in the back.
Carter faced various charges for the murder of his wife who was killed just days before the couple finalised their divorce proceedings in October 2020.
In his statement, Carter says on the day of the murder he went to lunch with a friend and later went to buy a bottle of tequila.
He went to the house and entered a flatlet and decided to stay over because he had been suiping during lunch.
When Franziska arrived home, she was kwaad to find him in the house as they had made an arrangement to meet several days later to finalise the divorce.
An argument erupted and Carter grabbed the iron from her and chased her into the kitchen where he hit her all over her body. Realising what he had done, he went to the pantry to suip more wine.
Neighbours who heard the commotion called the cops but the oupa says he did not open the door and instead staged the robbery.
He admitted to stabbing her and throwing clothes around the house and even removed jewellery from the safe to make it look like they were attacked by skelms.
He was sentenced to a 21-year prison term but as six of these years were suspended he will serve an effective 15 years in the mang.
