A Belhar ou says he bought a bakkie which was supposed to help with his business, but he ended up being a victim of a suspected Kraaifontein scam artist.
Prince Guzha said he saw an Opel Corsa bakkie for sale on the Facebook marketplace in October 2020 and was told it was in working good condition.
“I contacted Jacques van Wyk and we met in Durbanville at Cobble Walk Shopping Centre, and I paid R18 500 in cash but when I drove away I saw that I could not put the car into third, fifth and reverse gears.
“I called Jacques and told him that he lied to me and he said he was now in Paarl which I knew was a lie because I just drove away from him two minutes prior.”
Prince drove to Durbanville SAPS, but was told it was a matter for the Small Claims Court.
He then drove the bakkie in second gear all the way to Belhar.
“A few days later, Jacques sent two mechanics to come and fetch the car so that he can fix it, but then he called to say that the car is too broken and that he will give my money back.”
Prince said Jacques paid him back in instalments, but stopped at R8500.
“I then started getting phone calls from guys who told me that I must stop asking Jacques for my money or else, but I told them to go to hell because I worked hard for the money and I want my R10 000 back.
“The next week I saw that the bakkie was again for sale on Facebook.”
When the Daily Voice tried to contact Jacques, he immediately ended the call.
Prince said the Small Claims Court case failed as Jacques provided an incorrect address.
