Police have made a breakthrough nearly six months after the murder of Amina Abrahams whose mutilated body was found inside a cleaning truck in June.

Cops have arrested a 62-year-old man from Hanover Park for the murder of the 20-year-old woman, who made his first appearance at the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday on a charge of murder.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, confirms the man’s arrest: “Philippi police arrested a 62-year-old male in connection with the murder of Amina Abrahams that occurred on 3 June 2019.

“He is expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on 27 November.”

Amina’s body was found inside the cleaning truck by staff at the City of Cape Town’s depot in Downberg Road in Hanover Park.

The suspect, who cannot be identified until he appears in court, had been living at a house in Hanover Park as a tenant.

Cops initially took in the suspect’s landlord, Clive Pearce, 62, for questioning, but let him go.

Clive died soon after being let go after suffering a stroke.

The family previously told the Daily Voice that Clive had died due to stress and after the community damaged their home.

Rumours spread that Amina had left her home in Tiberius Court on Friday, 31 May to do char work and was last seen by the suspect.

Clive’s family said they had nothing to do with the case and had not seen Amina on that day and were upset after he was victimised and accused of her murder.
