Police are appealing to community members to come forward after a 29-year-old man died after being shot in the face a number of times in Nyanga on Wednesday afternoon.
The man, who was unknown to the community, died on the scene.
More than 10 shots were fired in Third Avenue in Mau-Mau and residents of the informal settlement said they hid as bullets “flew everywhere”.
Nobody knew the victim and residents insist there were three gunmen.
The man was only shot in his face, and was hit by about three bullets.
The gunmen ran off after the attack.
The community called the police and paramedics and the victim was declared dead on the scene.

Provincial police spokesperson, Siyabulela Malo, said a murder investigation was opened.
“A case of murder has been opened for investigation after a 29-year-old man was shot and fatally wounded on Wednesday in Third Avenue, Mau-Mau, Nyanga.
“According to reports, police members attached to Nyanga SAPS attended to the scene at the mentioned address and found the victim with gunshot wounds to his body.
“He died on the scene due to his injuries.
“Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation and no arrests have been made yet.”
