The organisers of the Western Cape Total Shutdown movement say reports they are planning another protest on Tuesday are false.
This comes after a document circulated on social media calling for a shutdown from 5am to 10am on Tuesday.
The organisers say they plan to spend today preparing for a meeting with national ministers.
“We wish to distance ourselves from this call as we have no intention of having a shutdown [Tuesday]. This is a mischievous statement intent on causing divisions,” read their statement.
Last week, Police Minister Bheki Cele held a meeting with the community in Bonteheuwel, where he promised to take their concerns to national government.
The meeting came after eight people were arrested as disgruntled Capetonians shut down major roads to voice their frustration over crime and a lack of policing.
Police used stun grenades, water cannons and rubber bullets to subdue protesters in Bonteheuwel.
On Saturday, the organisers reaffirmed their commitment to a “programme to restore our communities to a place where people live in dignity, where there is peace and friendship and where our caring and sharing culture is restored”.
