Criminals usually try to break out of jail, but two men left cops and wardens baffled when they tried to smokkel themselves into prison with a stash of drugs.
On Saturday, the two brazen skelms tried to enter Voorberg Prison in Porterville to do a drug delivery.
They sliced through electrical wires to gain access to the prison’s Medium B section.
An anonymous prison source tells the Daily Voice this is a new trend among gangs trying to cash in on the drug trade in jail, as authorities clamp down on dirty warders.
He says due to tough security measures it’s getting harder to smuggle drugs into the mang.
“So during the morning hours, or ‘ innie son af’ as they say, they smokkel it onto prison premises and bury the drugs in an already decided location the prisoners have access to.
“The selling of drugs in prisons gaan aan. There has been too much heat on vuil wardens,” the source explains.
Porterville SAPS was called to the prison after 1am after the two dom diewe tried to gain access to a lookout point that a warden was manning.
CONFISCATED: Mandrax
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, explains: “Officers were informed by the warder on duty that two suspects cut the electrical wires surrounding Medium B prison at the sports field side of the prison.
“The warder, who was on one of the lookout points, noticed the two men.
“They attempted to enter the lookout post that he was manning.
“The suspects did not know there was someone in the lookout post.
“One of the suspects was already halfway inside the lookout post when the warder confronted him.
“The two became involved in a scuffling and the warder took the backpack which the suspect had in his hand.
“The suspect fled the scene. When the warder opened the backpack, he found 350 mandrax tablets, a rope and a side cutter.
“The suspects could however not be found and are still at large.”
Department of Correctional Services spokesman, Rudi van Heerden, says security at the facility will be beefed up.
“They cut through the security wire and all prisoners are accounted for. Additional security measures have been put in place to address these challenges,” Van Heerden said.
“It was a delivery because DCS only got hold of the one bag and they fled with the others.
