ANDRE Naude, believed to be the right-hand man of alleged underworld kingpin Mark Lifman, and Sam Farquharson, a private investigator, were granted bail of R10 000 each in the Atlantis Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Naude and Farquharson were arrested last Thursday after cops swooped on their homes in Plattekloof and Parklands, respectively.
It is alleged the two tried to extort a Blaauwberg business.
They face charges of intimidation, extortion, assault, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and attempted kidnapping.
Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Eric Ntabazalila, says they were slapped with stringent bail conditions.
The men are not to have any contact with the complainant, and must stay out of Atlantis unless they appear in court.
“Both accused are to obtain permission from the State to pass through the Atlantis jurisdiction for social activities upon 48 hours’ notice; and both accused are to inform upon 48 hours’ notice to the State of their intention to leave the country and to provide the State with a schedule of depart and return dates,” Ntabazalila added.
Lifman and Naude previously owned Specialised Protection Services, providing security to nightclubs in the Western Cape.
This illegal operation was busted in 2015 but Lifman and Naude were cleared of charges.
Naude and Farquharson are expected back in court on 15 May.
