HELPED THE HANIS: President Jacob Zuma HELPED THE HANIS: President Jacob Zuma
Limpho Hani thanked Zuma for helping her when her youngest daughter battled cocaine addiction.
ANC and SA Communist Party (SACP) leaders attended the 24th anniversary of Hani’s death which was held at Thomas Nkobi Memorial Cemetery yesterday.
The president received a warm welcome at the memorial of the former SACP secretary-general, following violent anti-Zuma protests on Friday, and another “National Day of Action” planned for tomorrow.
The memorial was attended by newly appointed Minister of Police Fikile Mbalula, Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Des van Rooyen, SACP Deputy-General Solly Mapaila and Cosatu President Sdumo Dlamini.
Limpho, who was seated next to Zuma, said she was aware of rumours that she is with the anti-Zuma brigade.
“I don’t belong to a faction, I’m an ANC, there’s only one ANC,” she said to loud cheers.
Last week opposition parties and civic movements, including Save SA, held protest marches around the country to demand that Zuma steps down after his Cabinet reshuffle saw the sacking of finance minister Pravin Gordhan and his deputy Mcebisi Jonas.
Limpho said women were raped by taxi gangs, but there was no civil march to the taxi association to demand justice.
Chris Hani was gunned down on April 10, 1993 outside his house in Boksburg.
Tomorrow, on Zuma’s 75th birthday, opposition parties and civil society will march to the Union Building in Pretoria to demand the president to resign from office.
EFF leader Julius Malema warned rolling mass action would be the order of the day until the 2019 general elections if Zuma does not step down.
