NEW: Andre Theron at Kraaifontein mobile centre NEW: Andre Theron at Kraaifontein mobile centre
Kraaifontein’s Sector 4B Neighbourhood Watch not only opened their new Mobile Operational Centre (MOC) on Saturday, but also made a l ekker bust to kick off their launch.
The SAPS Mounted Unit arrested a man in possession of tik, dagga and mandrax next to the train line at about 10am, after watching him from on top of their horses.
The new MOC centre is a first for Kraaifontein and is fully fitted with CCTV cameras, two radios and a medical bed.
Chairman of Sector 4B, Andre Theron, says this new technology was gifted to them and assisted in the arrest of the suspect.
“I am glad the launch of the new security system could assist in the arrest of a suspect,” he says.
“If it wasn’t for the launch of our new equipment, another suspect could have gotten away and went forth with drug dealing in the community.
“Before the suspect could flee he was caught, arrested and handed over to Captain Vissie van Schalkwyk, the Sector 4 manager.”
REPORT: FC van Wyk
The MOC will be used for neighbourhood watch awareness programmes as well as visibility during night patrols, and will work in collaboration with police and all other law enforcement agencies during joint operations.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, confirmed a 45-year-old suspect was arrested in Mossie Street for the illegal possession of drugs and appeared in court Monday.
“The suspect was arrested and detained at Kraaifontein SAPS on possession of drugs charges and appeared in the Kuils River Magistrates’ Court on Monday,” Van Wyk said.
