A group of Mitchells Plain laaities caught an alleged sex pest masturbating near a play park, shortly after he tried to pull a young girl into a bush.
Mom Irma Langeveldt, 34, says angry boys chased the man and then handed him over to police, who took him away on Friday.
Irma and her sister, Abigail, 29, say they became aware of the man hiding in the bushes near Ionian Street in Rocklands several weeks ago as kids complained of a naked man bothering them.
“They told us about him and he would come and go, but we never caught him doing anything,” says Irma.
“On 1 December the children told us he was on the dune behind the park and when I went to look, I saw him having sex with clothes that he made into a woman.
“We made a video and warned the children to stay away from him.”
On the video, the man can be seen simulating sex on a pile of clothes, his pants pulled down to his knees.
Irma says on Friday she was called by teen boys after they caught the man spying on girls.
Khian Davids, 13, says they were walking their dogs along Spine Road when they spotted the man.
“There were four girls and he was following them. They crossed the road to get away from him, but he also crossed and then he grabbed the one girl and so we chased after him. The girl is nine years old.”
Irma says an off-duty police officer from Strandfontein SAPS was driving home when he saw the commotion and stopped.
“We told him what happened and he arrested the man and took him away,” she says.
“We don’t know what happened afterwards with him, but we noticed over the weekend that all his stuff is gone.”
DISGUSTED: Mom Irma Langeveldt, 34
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, says police have no record of the incident but residents showed the Daily Voice a video of the man being arrested.
“We are just happy that sick man is gone and no children were hurt,” says Irma.
“The bush is right by the park and that is the only place they can play. We don’t know if he is mad (mentally disturbed) or what, but we are happy he is gone and our children are safe.”
