A Mitchells Plain teenager has been stabbed in the heart and found dumped on a field.
The family of Wanita Petersen, 18, was preparing Sunday lunch when they heard the disturbing news that she had been found dead in Priscilla Way, Montrose Park.
Beverly Philander, 25, says: “My cousin never missed lunch and when she didn’t pitch, my grandmother got worried.
“And then I received a call that said that she had been stabbed and killed.
“When I arrived at the scene, there were a lot of people around her.
“I tried to get the police to show me the body but they told me to wait.
“Eventually I did, and I saw a lot of blood where she lay, and also from her left side.
“She was still wearing her top, tights and tekkies which means she was not raped.”
The distraught cousin reveals that Wanita was rebellious.
“We didn’t know where she was all the time, she would come and go.
“Even when she was killed, we didn’t know who she was with.
“I last saw her on Saturday evening at 6pm and the next day she was killed.
“Right now, as the family, we would like to wait for the police to finish doing their job and arrest whoever is responsible.
“We would like to find out what happened but that won’t bring her back.
“We are leaving everything to God to bring the suspect to book.”
Police spokesperson FC van Wyk confirms: “The victim was found on an open field in Priscilla Way around 1.54pm on Sunday afternoon.
“No one has been arrested.
“Anyone with information can contact Detective Constable Rubin van Wyk on 021 377 5000.”
