Members of the Woodstock Crime Prevention Unit swooped on Masani Informal Settlement in Railway Road, Woodstock on Monday where a 41-year-old man and 35-year-old vrou were nabbed.
The duo will be facing charges of drug dealing and drug possession.
Woodstock police spokesperson, Sergeant Hilton Malila, says cops outsmarted the merts and were responding to complaints from the community.
He says a total of 227 units of heroin, also known as ungah, seven packets of mandrax and 11 packets of tik were seized.
“The suspects currently in police custody are facing charges of possession and dealing in drugs and are due to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday,” he says.
“We received various complaints about illegal activities happening at the site and deployed our CPU [Crime Prevention Unit] team to eradicate the scourge of the brazen drug trade.
“The Woodstock police will continue to monitor the area on a frequent basis.
“The Station Commander applauded the vigilance and dedication of the members and said that criminals have no space within our society.”
