A Mitchells Plain civic organisation is feeding hundreds of people following the nationwide lockdown which saw thousands of people lose their jobs.

Moulana Goosain Arend and his team from the Darul Saaligheen Centre in Eastridge blessed over 250 people in Searidge Park on Saturday with a lekker warm meal.

“With the mercy of Allah, our organisation has stepped up to assist the community in this pandemic during the nationwide lockdown because of Covid-19,” he says.

“On Saturday, we went to the community of Searidge Park, an area where gangsterism is common and people are facing extreme difficulties.

“What stood out for me the most was when two women came up to me saying this was their first meal in two days.

“They were not by the means financially to always have a cooked meal and relied on their social grants,” Arend said.

Monday morning, the team hit the road again, this time to distribute warm soup in the rain in Masiphumelele near Ocean View.

“The food we are distributing is all thanks to generous donors and we have to thank Yusuf Josephs from Athlone Auto Transmissions who donate daily,” Arend says.

He is hoping donations can keep rolling in so they can feed different

communities daily.

“We do not want to see anyone go hungry and hope donations can come in so we can assist and go to these communities,” Arend added.
