The family of a 22-year-old man from Mitchells Plain is hard at work raising funds for him to join the South African BOKTAG Squad on a kwaai 10-day tour to Ireland.
Kyle Saunders needs about R36 000 to join the team and this weekend there’s a fundraiser which his family hopes people will support.
Kyle, from Beacon Valley, is currently the rugby coach at Panorama Primary School in Welgelegen and plays for Hamiltons RFC.
He started playing rugby at Cornflower Primary in Lentegeur when he was eight, captained the Oval North High squad, played for the formidable Maties and, finally, found his home at Hamiltons.
Kyle was selected to represent SA in Ireland from 4-14 July and his family has pulled together to host fundraisers to help pay his way.
On Monday evening, people are invited to get their dite at McDonald’s at the Promenade Mall for a limited time, and 15% of all sales made in that time will be given to Kyle.
Dad, Gavin, says: “I am very proud of my son. He has worked hard to get to this point in his career. He loves rugby and we hope everyone will come and get their meals at McDonalds and get to meet Kyle and see his passion.”
Kyle says: “It is a great opportunity. I am currently in my second year studying teaching.
“This trip could open so many doors for me. I just want to show what I’m made of.”
To support Kyle, get your McDonalds on Monday from 6pm to 8pm.
