A 63-year-old ouma from Manenberg has died and her 30-year-old son wounded in a shooting on Friday night.
Manenberg Police Station commander, Brigadier Enolium Joseph, says the mother and son were shot at their home in Tambo Village at 9.30pm.
He says the shooters were probably known to the family as there was no sign of forced entry.
The suspects fled on foot and police have called on the community to piemp the killers.
“Officers were called to a shooting incident in Tambo Village and on arrival, they found a 63-year-old woman fatally wounded with a gunshot wound to the head and her 30-year-old son in a critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest,” says Joseph.
“It is alleged that two males came to the house and the front door was opened for them. This means that the victims knew their assailants.
“Without any warning the suspects opened fire on the unsuspecting victims, firing several shots at the two people sitting in the lounge.”
The woman died on the scene while her son was rushed to Heideveld Emergency Centre.
“The suspects fled the scene on foot. A case of murder and attempted murder has been opened for investigation. No arrests have been made.”
