A Manenberg skollie believed to be behind the murder of a 47-year-old father last week will appear in the Athlone Magistrate's Court on Monday morning after he was caught on camera.
The Daily Voice has learned that the alleged member of the Americans gang was out on parole for another killing.
The brazen boef was arrested on Thursday morning by Metro Police officers after he was caught firing a gun in Scheldt Walk.
Metro Police spokesperson, Zelda Martin, says the 22-year-old man was nabbed by the Gang and Drugs Task Team following a Shotspotter alert.
“Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert and followed up - they tracked down the suspect, but were unable to retrieve the firearm used in the incident,” Martin says.
“CCTV footage, however, confirmed the identity of the shooter, who is said to be affiliated to one of the gangs in the area.
“Investigations are also underway into his potential involvement in other shooting incidents in the area. He faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and discharging a firearm in a municipal area.”
According to a police source close to the case, the skollie has been identified as the man who shot Abdul Kader Stanford, 47, on Wednesday.
BUSTED: The 22-year-old man, who is believed to be behind the murder of Abdul, was arrested
The father of two was killed when a bullet fired outside his Scheldt Walk home penetrated his chest while he stood at his bedroom window.
A witness says Abdul Kader, who lived on the top floor of a maisonette, got gatvol when he heard the gunshots and went to his window to skel with the skollies, who then turned their guns on him.
The source says the skollie is currently out on parole after he was found guilty of culpable homicide for stabbing a man to death in Manenberg several years ago.
“His parole ends in 2021. He is a known member of [the] Americans gang and has been involved in the recent shootings. He now faces murder, but also attempted murder for shooting another skollie in the stomach last week,” the source explains.
Manenberg police confirm the arrest.
Meanwhile Abdul Kader’s janaazah has been delayed.
His younger brother, Ebrahiem Peters, 38, says: “There were problems at the mortuary because they did not realise he is Muslim. We did not have his identification documents, but we have managed to get a birth certificate now and they told us the autopsy will be done by Monday so we can get the body on Monday or Tuesday and have the janaazah and let him rest.
“We are happy the suspect has been caught,” he adds.
