The body was found burning in a white Hyundai Accent on Silversands Road, Blue Downs early on Sunday morning.
On Monday, Mfuleni police tracked down and arrested a 43-year-old suspect, Theodore Loggenberg, who made a brief appearance in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
Loggenberg was interrogated, and on Wednesday another man, a 24-year-old, was nabbed.
He did not appear in court as he was still being questioned.
Loggenberg is charged with kidnapping, hijacking and murder of the officer and the docket states that he also stabbed the victim.
The SANDF has confirmed the victim was a soldier.
Neither the police, army or the man’s family wanted to identify him on Thursday, saying the investigation was ongoing and more arrests were expected.
The docket in court states that the victim was held in the car and driven around to different locations while he was still alive.
Provincial police spokesperson, Noloyiso Rwexana said Loggenberg was arrested in Dennemere, Blackheath on Monday.
“On Tuesday after more information was received on the whereabouts of a second suspect, the investigating team arrested a 24-year-old male.”
SANDF spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Hamilton Ngubane, confirmed that a deployed soldier was found burnt to death in his car.
“We do not have details of this as yet and will confirm all information as soon as possible.” Loggenberg’s case was postponed.
