KwaZulu-Natal police on Monday said that they have arrested a man who was allegedly selling human body parts.
In a statement, police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said they were tipped off on Sunday night and investigations led them to Marine Drive in Margate where the suspect, dressed in traditional garb, was seated in a vehicle.
"During the search they discovered a bucket with a human skull, hand, torso and other body parts that were cut into small pieces. The man confirmed to police that it was indeed human body parts and he informed police that he used these items to heal people", Mbele said.
He had allegedly tried to sell the body parts and had approached traditional healers in the Emanguzi area.
The traditional healers raised the alarm when the suspect told them he was selling body parts for R4 000.
Police are investigating whether he can be linked to other crimes. Mbele said DNA analysis will reveal if the body parts belonged to more than one person.
The suspect, 34, will appear in the Margate Magistrate's Court on a charge of illegal possession of suspected human body parts.
