An attempted robbery ended with the murder of a man in Rooikrans Street in Lentegeur on Sunday.
According to residents, the shooting took place just after 7pm and that the first shots were fired in Marguerite Street, the first road leading to the area after the train station.
A male resident who only knew the victim by his first name, Shaun, said: “I do not know where he was coming from because you do not normally see him around.
“We heard shots and saw a paar guys running after him, so we think they were trying to rob him but he seker fought back and was trying to get away.”
The resident added that Shaun fell just after just entering Rooikrans Street after being struck by bullets and he never got up again.
“The guys did not even take stuff from him and after he fell, they just ran away again.
“I am not sure where he stays but I know that he is not a gangster or anything like that.
“Maybe they thought he was somebody else but he was just a normal guy who stayed here in the area.”
SAPS’ FC van Wyk said Lentegeur SAPS are investigating the shooting while no arrests have been made yet.
“The 36-year-old male was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body and had succumbed due to injuries sustained.
“Anybody with information regarding the shooting is requested to contact the investigating officer at Lentegeur SAPS.”
