The management of Parow Centre is appealing for help in finding a young woman who lost her purse containing cash and other personal items after it was found by a good Samaritan and handed in.
Ronald Pillai, the head of security at the centre, says on 22 March the black leather purse was discovered forgotten in a trolley by Sipho Mashinini who handed it in.
“He is the Pick n Pay exchange trolley supervisor and on 22 March he came to me with the purse saying he found it in a trolley found in the Spur parking area.
“It appears that the owner either forgot it or it fell out of her bag.”
He says when they opened the purse they found cash, an ID, a Sassa and bus card.
“We kept it at security waiting for the owner to come back, but maybe they thought nobody would hand it in.
“We are trying to find the person as we would not want them to have to go to Home Affairs and through all of that to get a new ID and cards thinking it was lost forever.
“We have also kept all the money that was inside which I am sure the owner would want back.”
Pillai says the owner would have to report to the centre in person to retrieve the purse.
“There is a picture on the ID card so we will only hand it back to the person who is identified on the card.
“They will have to come to the centre and ask for me so they can get it back.
“We applaud Mashinini for his honesty and being a good Samaritan. We want to save the lady the trouble of getting her cards replaced.”
