Soccer fans listen up: Liverpool is coming to town!
The English Premier League log leaders are sending their laaities to Cape Town in October to participate in the Lucky Star Cup.
Hosted by FC Kapstadt, the cup formerly known as the Kapstadt Cup, changed its name last year.
This will be their 10th year running and what better way to mark a decade than by inviting the European champions to give them a taste of the Mother City.
Liverpool FC will be sending their under-12 and under-14 squads after FC Kapstadt president and Lucky Star Cup Tournament Director, Zaid Omar, approached the English soccer giants.
In what he calls a major coup, Omar says he was asked to visit Anfield to present his idea which was approved on the spot.
Omar also got a chance to meet Liverpool’s Sadio Mane, Virgil van Dijk and manager Jurgen Klopp.

“It is a proud moment for FC Kapstadt to host Liverpool FC Academy teams for the first time in South African history,” he says.
“Kids dream of playing for Liverpool or against them. Liverpool’s participation delivers on our promise to create a platform to make dreams a reality.
“In this way, we believe the event will continue to inspire youth footballers from South Africa.”
The cup is one of a few Cape Town premier grassroots football festivals.
Andrew Powlesland, head of LFC Academy operations, said they are delighted to be able to bring their young players to Mzansi and support the Lucky Star Cup for the very first time.
“As well as a chance to play against some excellent teams from all over Africa, we know the trip will act as a wonderful educational and cultural experience for our boys.”
