It seems the apple didn’t fall far from the tree for a Cape Flats father and son who are set to appear in court on a string of charges.
The Daily Voice can reveal that after FOUR years, Moegsien Haywood, 60, the father of the infamous “closet killer”, Ziyaad Haywood, appeared in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Friday for his role in the robbery of a couple at their Kensington home.
Ziyaad, 34, currently faces 21 charges of murder, attempted murder, armed robbery and kidnapping, for an alleged killing spree he went on four years ago.
He stands accused of killing Athlone businessman Imraan Daya, 27, in 2015 and went on the run in November 2016 after allegedly also shooting and killing security guard Herman Hendricks at China Town in Ottery on 5 November 2016.
He is also accused of the murder of his own friend, Moegamat Nasser Ganief, who piemped him for hijacking an Audi TT.
Ziyaad was one of the most wanted criminals in the Western Cape and after nearly two years on the run, he was nabbed by wakker Grassy Park cops.
Following a tip-off in July 2018, cops searched his parents’ Lotus River home where they found him hiding in a secret closet.
His parents Juleiga and Moegsien were arrested for harbouring a fugitive and were later released on R2000 bail.

The couple will go on trial at the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday where the arresting officers are expected to take the stand.
This May, while out on bail, Moegsien was arrested along with three suspected gangsters during an undercover operation by the Hawks.
Hawks spokesperson, Captain Philani Nkwalase, says Moegsien allegedly “placed an order” with smugglers for hand grenades, explosives and AK47 rifles but it is not clear what he intended to use it for.
The suspects were nabbed after the transaction was made.
“All five deactivated pistols and cash used in the transaction were recovered as well as two vehicles, a VW Golf GTI and a VW Citi Golf used during the commission of crime were also confiscated for further investigations.”
Moegsien was sent to Pollsmoor Prison to join his son after a brief appearance at the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court on these charges.
Nkwalase confirms Moegsien is still in prison, but says he appeared at the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court today for his role in the robbery of the Kensington couple.

A month after Ziyaad was arrested, the scared victim came forward and told the Daily Voice that Moegsien was also involved in the robbery.
She said Ziyaad held her husband at gunpoint while stealing a superbike from their home.
Ziyaad is expected back at the High Court on 23 August for his pre-trial hearings.
