A learner from St George’s Grammar School in Mowbray was nearly killed by skelms who shot and robbed him after school on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old and his friend, 17, were walking on the footbridge towards the Mowbray bus station just before 4pm when they were attacked.
SAPS spokesperson FC van Wyk says: “The victims were approached by two unknown males dressed in dark clothes and face masks, armed with a knife and firearm.
“Suspects robbed their wallets and cellphones.
“Whilst walking away, the victims heard a gunshot and noticed the two suspects running back to the lower taxi rank.
“The 19-year-old victim was injured in his left shoulder and was taken to a nearby hospital.
“The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.”
St George’s Grammar School principal Julian Cameron, says: “The Grade 11 is in pain, but is in a stable condition.
He says counselling has been made available to the learners.
Jonathan Hobday, Mowbray CPF chairperson, urged learners to be vigilant.
“These incidents are frequent and the victims are often students. The bus or taxi terminus is a hunting ground for the criminals,” he says.
