A student says she has paid over R2 000 to a driving school but has yet to receive any lessons five months later.
Mpumi Simani, 24, from Gugulethu, says she saved up money to get her learner’s and driver’s licence as she would need it for a job next year, but says the owner of the DrivingCo Driving Academy is taking her for a ride.
“I contacted DrivingCo in June after seeing their adverts online and met with an instructor who told me about the packages,” Mpumi explains.
“I chose the package where I could do my learner’s, get driving lessons and hire the car for R2 300. I paid immediately.”
The property management student says she passed her learner’s licence on 28 June and was ready to get behind the wheel.
“But every time an appointment was made, the driving instructors never pitched,” she says. “They promised I would have my licence by September, but I am yet to get a driving lesson.”
Mpumi says when she approached management, she was told they don’t do refunds.
NO CAN DO: Manager Naguib Haniff refuses refund
“All I want now is my refund. I am in no mood for any negotiations whatsoever,” Mpumi says.
DrivingCo manager, Naguib Haniff, says he won’t refund Mpumi and she can make an appointment for her lessons.
“We don’t do refunds. She still has 17 lessons left, she can just speak with me via WhatsApp and we can arrange times and dates that suit her because she has a busy schedule.
“I know she had a problem with a few instructors, but she must give a cut-off date and we can guarantee she will pass her test,” Haniff tells the Daily Voice.
