Two Grassy Park brothers accused of selling cough syrup to teens so they can get high have been released on R1000 bail at the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court.
Kiyaam Basardien, 32, along with his older brother Muneeb, 36, made their first appearance in court yesterday after being bust with 246 bottles of Stilpane worth over R7000.
The brothers were nabbed during a raid at their home in 8th Avenue, where officers uncovered 11 boxes of the syrup, which cops say is being used by teen boys as a date rape drug.

Cops also confiscated compressed dagga worth over R20 000.
The syrup, which contains the highly addictive substance codeine, is mixed with fizzy cooldrinks to make a concoction called “lean”.
Station commander, Colonel Dawood Laing, says empty
bottles of cough syrup are found near high schools and at public parks.
The syrup is being sold to children for as little as R30 a bottle.
Laing revealed that teen boys were now intentionally giving lean to girls, so they can sexually abuse the meisies when they are passed out.
Yesterday, the brothers told the court they can only afford R500 each for bail, but they were made to cough up R1000 each.

It was also revealed that they both have drug convictions
dating back to 2016.
The case was postponed to 14 May for further investigations.
An angry Laing says the brothers should have stayed in jail as they will continue to sell the syrup.
“As Grassy Park police we will keep a close eye on them and we are calling on residents to start piemping these cough syrup merts and we will go get them to show the courts how serious this problem is,” he says.
