The son-in-law of alleged former 28s gang boss Ernie “Lastig” Solomon has been shot and killed and another man wounded in Hermanus during a suspected gang-related shooting.
Police were called to a house in Church Street, Fisherhaven, on 6 February, where they found the body of Hilton Julies, 34, and a 37-year-old man who had been wounded. The man is currently recovering in hospital.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, confirms the shooting: “Hermanus police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder subsequent to a shooting incident that occurred on 6 February at Church Street, Fisherhaven, Hermanus.
“According to information, police responded to the complaint at the address and upon their arrival, they found a 34-year-old man who was fatally wounded after being shot, while a 37-year-old man was shot and wounded.
“Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation with no arrests so far.”
Relatives of Julies also took to Facebook after the murder, expressing their shock and disbelief.
Sources tell the Daily Voice that the community is reeling in shock as Julies was well-known.
