School children in Kraaifontein had to run for their lives as gunshots rang out on Thursday morning, claiming the life of a 20-year-old man.
Breyton Hermanus was gunned down on the corner of Petrus and Nathaniel Streets in Scottsdene.
His shocked father, Frans Willemse, 55, says he was still on his way to work when he received a call that his son had been killed.
“They shot him five times,” the dad says.
“My son was not a gangster, he did odd jobs for people in our area.
“He was so looking forward to his crown birthday in May and we were going to have a nice party for him.”
A resident says children were walking to school before 8am when the shots were fired.
“Breyton was busy talking to someone and as they approached this guy, he got out the gun and shot him.
“The children dropped their bags in the street and ran for their lives.”
SAPS’ FC van Wyk says no arrests were made.
