CHAOS: Burglar bars ripped off the Fisantekraal home
The community turned on the family of a suspected killer and on the police following the death of a teenage boy.
Diego Davids, 15, was stabbed to death in Fisantekraal on Sunday night and a man, 27, was arrested for the murder.
Accusing the suspect of being a gangster, residents attacked the suspect’s house.
When the cops arrived, they then turned their anger on them and stoned police vehicles.
A source in the neighbourhood told the Daily Voice: “People thought the man belongs to the Bad Boys gang.
“It’s bad that a young boy has died, but people mustn’t blame gangs for everything.”
Instead, the 43-year-old source says a drunken argument led to the knife fight.
He said the victim was stabbed in the neck and back in Saartjie Baartman Street.
Diego was in Grade 7 at Alpha Primary School in Durbanville.
His parents were too grief-stricken to speak to the Daily Voice.
After Diego’s death, all hell broke loose as residents wrecked the house in Station Street and pulled the burglar bars off the door and windows.
The suspect’s family was forced to flee for their lives.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk says Durbanville SAPS were investigating a case of murder.
“According to reports, the deceased was in an argument with another person in the street. Both of them pulled out knives and the 15-year-old boy was fatally wounded,” he explains.
“A 27-year-old man of Fisantekraal was arrested by the police on a charge of murder.
“After the murder incident, the community attacked the suspect’s house in Station Road.
“A case of malicious damage to property was opened by the suspect’s family.
“The police members who attended the incident were also attacked, and stones were thrown at them and the police vehicles.
“A case of public violence was opened. At this stage no arrests were made for these incidents.
“The suspect will appear in the Bellville Magistrate's Court (today).”
