The murder trial for Kensington toddler, Jeremiah Ruiters, will only be heard in March next year, the court heard on Friday.
Mom Abigail Ruiters, 30, and her boyfriend Ameerudien Peters, 26, are charged with the rape and murder of one-year-old Jeremiah.
After being on pre-trial in the Cape High Court for over three months, Jeremiah’s aunt, Petina Timm, says they are getting moeg of waiting for justice and need closure.
“Right now all we can do is stick it out until the big day when old wounds are going to be ripped open but we are ready for it, purely for the sake of justice for Jeremiah,” she says.
It is alleged in June 2017, Peters, who was looking after the tot, raped, beat and then stabbed him to death at their home.
He took the child to the clinic, where the tot was declared dead on arrival.
Ruiters is charged with murder and child neglect under the Children’s Act.
